I've always been someone who's tried to do his own thing. There are some amazing magical effects on the market and I'm happy to use and perform them if I feel they fit my style etc.
However from the start I've always created little ideas and routines etc that suited me and as a bonus I knew they would be unique and only I would be performing them .
Last year I decided to share these when I lectured at Cardiff magical society. Showing your own effects to a room full of magicians was enormously intimidating, however everyone there was great and the feedback was amazing.
Now I'm working with some of the biggest magicians and magic companies on bringing some effects to the market .
I'm really excited, but also very nervous, I'm lucky that I have these magicians and companies supporting me though.
One effect has been waiting a few years , this is due to wanting to get the gimmick absolutely perfect. Neither myself nor the company wanted to release anything less than perfect to the community. I'm really excited about this effect though, there is nothing like it on the market, and I really believe it's going to be a top seller. It's so visual and fooling, yet so easy to perform.
Another effect I've just seen the first prototype yesterday, an amazing magician who is working with me on this sent me the photos and it's blown me away. Again such a visual effect and I can't wait to see it out and being performed by other magicians .
There's no secret to creating a trick, I just sit with a notepad and think, what would I want to be able to do. For eg.
"I want to change the colour of my shoe laces from black to red"
Then I think, ok what's the easiest way to do that.
I jot down a few ideas and then work on those .
Sometimes the idea is a good one, sometimes not. Sometimes I spend ages on it only to find someo other magician has already done it.
I think I enjoy creating tricks and ideas more than actually performing .
